Shield your client's research
from discovery

After Heppner, a client's public search can be fair game. KovelAI is the lawyer-bought portal so they work through the firm. Privilege is not guaranteed. Not legal advice.

Read the Manifesto

Attorney-supervised client AI and web search

KovelAI is infrastructure law firms can use to supervise client research and intake. It does not create privilege, file documents, or replace counsel. KovelAI does not create attorney-client privilege. Whether any communication is privileged depends on the facts and applicable law. Attorney review required. Not legal advice. Automated filing is not available.

Split-plane boundary

Firm operations and client session content are designed as separate planes. Session content is not used to train models. Operational metadata and security logs may still exist for limited periods.

$99 triage

A $99 triage conversation is an intake discussion. It is not legal advice, not a representation agreement, and not a privilege guarantee.

Trust behavior

Public pages describe controls we actually operate: tenant isolation, retention settings, and attorney review. No invented customers, conversion rates, or court endorsements.

Trust and security

Your Clients' Internet Searches Can Be Discoverable.

After public rulings highlighting discovery risk for client internet activity outside attorney-supervised channels, firms need controlled workflows. KovelAI provides attorney-supervised AI and search infrastructure that may be potentially privilege-sensitive when properly directed by counsel. Privilege is not determined by the product and is never guaranteed. Not legal advice.

⚖️

Attorney-Supervised Channels

Route client web activity through firm-supervised infrastructure designed to support privilege analysis — not to guarantee a court outcome.

🔒

Retention Controls

Session-content retention is limited by design. Operational metadata and logs may still exist. Subpoenas can apply to records that exist.

💰

Revenue at the Front Door

Firms can bill for supervised access and after-hours intake. Privilege is not a product SKU and is never automatic.

Three Steps to Supervised Intake Revenue

01

Connect

Your clients access KovelAI through your firm's branded portal under firm policies and supervision.

02

Supervise

Web searches and AI queries are routed through firm-directed infrastructure with retention controls. Privilege status is not determined by the product.

03

Bill

Each supervised session can generate billable entries configured by the firm. After-hours intake can convert to retained matters with attorney follow-up.

KovelAI vs. Uncontrolled Consumer AI

Firm-supervised infrastructure can reduce uncontrolled discovery risk. It does not guarantee attorney-client privilege or nondiscoverability. Courts decide privilege.

Common Questions

What is the Kovel Doctrine?
United States v. Kovel, 296 F.2d 918 (2d Cir. 1961), addresses when communications with certain non-attorney agents working under an attorney's direction may be protected. Whether that doctrine applies to any particular AI or tooling use is fact-specific and not determined by this product. KovelAI is infrastructure that law firms may use under their own supervision; it does not create privilege and is not a substitute for legal judgment.
Is my client data stored anywhere?
KovelAI is designed with retention controls intended to limit persistence of session content. Some operational metadata (for example billing timestamps and token counts) and security logs may be retained for limited periods. Universal zero-retention or zero-metadata is not claimed. Subpoenas and legal process can still apply to whatever records exist. See the Privacy Policy for current practices.
What happened in In re Heppner?
Public marketing references post-Heppner discovery risk for client internet activity outside attorney-supervised channels. Case outcomes and their scope are jurisdiction- and fact-specific. KovelAI does not guarantee any particular court result. Firms remain responsible for ethics compliance and privilege analysis.
How does billing work for firm-supervised sessions?
Clients may access KovelAI through a firm's branded portal when the firm enables it. Session activity can support billable entries configured by the firm. Pricing and engagement terms are between the firm and its clients. Privilege is not sold as a product guarantee.
What AI model does KovelAI use?
KovelAI routes model inference through firm-configured enterprise channels (for example Google Gemini via Vertex AI where enabled). Models are not a source of legal conclusions. Automated legal conclusions and automated court filing are not supported.
Does KovelAI support SOC 2 / HIPAA-aligned practices?
KovelAI is pursuing SOC 2 Type II assessment work and designs architecture with regulated-industry customers in mind. No SOC 2 Type II report is published here. HIPAA applicability depends on the firm’s use case and agreements — no blanket HIPAA certification is claimed.

KovelAI does not create attorney-client privilege. Legal status is not determined by this product. Attorney review required. Not legal advice. Automated filing is not available.

The AI Slop Problem: Why Heppner Changes Everything for Client Web Activity

AI-generated content — “AI slop” — has flooded the internet. Clients googling legal questions now receive hallucinated answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. After Heppner, every one of those AI-mediated searches is potentially discoverable. Here's what that means for your practice and why supervision-first infrastructure is no longer optional.
